1.
The name of the Society shall be:
"The Cambridge University Persian Society". 2.
The Society's aims shall be: ·
To hold gatherings for Iranians and other people
interested in the country to meet. ·
To generally promote Iranian culture, past and
present, to those who are less familiar with it. 3. It should be made clear at all times that the Society has no
political or religious views. 4. Membership of the
Society shall be extended to all members of the
University and any others who may apply to the Committee. Membership to the
society shall be subject to an annual or life fee, both these amounts having been decided by the Committee. The Committee shall
not refuse an application for membership on the grounds of race, sex, sexual
orientation, religion or political views. It may, however,
expel any member for behaviour believed to be detrimental to the
Society or to bring it into disrepute. 5. Ordinary meetings shall be held at least fortnightly during Full Term. The
Annual General meeting of the Society shall be held each year in the Lent Term. The time and venue of this meeting will be determined and publicised by the Committee at least two
weeks beforehand. 6. The Committee shall be elected at the AGM. Nominations for the Committee
must be submitted to the Secretary at least five
days before the AGM. Any member of the Society may be
nominated for any Committee post by two other members of the Society.
There may be hustings at the AGM. Votes shall be counted by two persons chosen at the AGM
and who are not candidates for Committee posts. The committee may at its discretion co-opt additional Committee members
to itself where it perceives the need, or to fill vacancies that may arise. 7. The Committee
shall consist of: President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Publicity Officer, Treasurer and other
officers appointed if and when the need arises. 8. A Senior Treasurer
shall be appointed by the Committee each year to
audit the Society's accounts. The Senior Treasurer shall not be liable for
any financial debt or other obligation of the Society, unless the Senior
Treasurer has personally authorised such a debt in writing. 9. Amendments to this
Constitution may be proposed by at least six members of the Society (at least
three of whom should not be part of the Committee), and must be submitted to
the Secretary in writing. This Constitution may only be
amended at an AGM, or a meeting specially called for that purpose. 10. On dissolution, all assets of the Society shall be paid to the Societies Syndicate. |
