Conference "Opportunities of Mexico in Europe"
February 7, 2003
4:45 PM
Room 3, Mill Lane Lecture Rooms

By Dr. Porfirio Muñoz Ledo, Ambassador of Mexico before the European Union in Brussels. The talk will be chair by Prof. David Brading of the Centre for Latinamerican Studies

The Ambassador will talk to us about the Mexican-European commercial agreements and political and economic cooperation between the European Union and Mexico. Dr. Porfirio Muñoz-Ledo is one of the most prominent politicians in Mexico. He studied law in the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and received a PhD in Political Science from the University of Paris. He has been a Mexican Presidential candidate, Labour Minister, Education Minister as well as Senator and Congressman in the Mexican Parliament. In the international arena, he has been Head of the Mexican Mission before the UN and as such held a term as President of the UN Security Council. In 1987 he co-founded what will become one of the most influential opposition parties in Mexico -the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). In 2001 he was appointed as the Mexican Ambassador before the EU. We are very very glad to have the opportunity to receive such an experienced and influential politician.
