Relationships are a means of shaping ourselves and finding our place in the world: we mimic the habits and beliefs of other people until we make them our own. Using our experiences, we develop ourselves into an individual who exists in their own right, rather than being just a reflection of what surrounds us. Relationships can be terrifying, satisfying, painful, and exhilarating.
What is a relationship?
Love?
A chance interaction between two people?
A one-sided obsession? An abusive marriage?
Based on the experiences of a girl growing up, reflections is an exploration of ‘relationships’, their effect on the people involved, and on those who surround them. In a collaboration of dances that bridge cultural and stylistic boundaries, together they chart a pathway of development through life.
Following the sell-out success of last year’s ground-breaking production of Authentik?, at Emmanuel College, reflections also works to strengthen the link between dance and theatre on the Cambridge scene. Collaborating with CADS, Christ’s drama society, Newnham College’s Anonymous Players, and the Cambridge University Contemporary Dance Workshop, reflections is a positively astral production from some of Cambridge University’s rising talent.
