Once again the dancers of CU Contemporary Dance Workshop explode onto the
ADC stage in a truly inspiring and uplifting body of new dance works,
exploring diverse interpretations of the theme, "Over the Edge".
Tantalize your senses with five evenings of the newest, most innovative dance
in Cambridge. A collage of brilliantly diverse contemporary dance
explodes on to the stage, exploring the depths and possibilities of
communication through movement. This year brings yet more surprises and
enjoyment for everyone who has been before; and for those who haven't, this
is the ideal opportunity to convert to the joys of dance. "Over the Edge"
brings new talent into the spotlight with breathtaking results. So take our
advice, come see new choreographic works that will make you laugh, cry and
wonder... why you never went to see dance before.
“Over the Edge” presents the work of twelve different choreographers, who have each chosen a different dance style to work with, and the variety of movement styles presented in the show includes graceful, balletic dance, African tribal influenced movement, hard-edged and high energy contemporary dance, Indian classical dance and release technique.
Pieces explore a diverse range of themes, to pushing the body over the edge of its physical range, to exploring the mental lurch from sanity to madness; from the breaking of boundaries between people to stepping over the edge of social and moral conventions; exploring the drop of traditional dance and music forms into modern pop, and playing with the boundaries of audience expectations.
Music is an integral part of the show, and the variety of musical styles used include blues vocal, classical music, electronica, music specially composed for the show and Hiphop. Artists whose work features in the show include Eminem, Gustav Holst, D*Note, Don Davis and Iggy Pop.
The show reveals the diversity of dance as an art-form, and its potential to create both power and intimacy through performance. A spectacular fusion of dance and music that will tip your expectations over the edge!
