Confused
"Confused?" - a mélange of dance styles, emotions, thoughts and ideas, explored the frontiers of movement and dance with choreographers producing new work, specifically for the show. We asked all choreographers to work on the theme of confusion, interpreting this however they choose.
Choreographic styles encompassed everything from the balletic to African influenced contemporary dance. The production aimed to challenge the traditional dance show format, experimenting with staging and continuity to expose and question the boundaries between the audience and the dancers.
Rather than a distant spectacle on stage, we wanted to create immediacy, energy and an air of spontaneity within the performance space. Audience expectations were subverted again and again as the dancers permeated the entire auditorium, sometimes performing on stage, sometimes within the audience itself. In this way, they revealed the diversity of dance, as an art-form, and its potential to create both power and intimacy through performance.
