With (almost) amazing punctuality the Blues team were ready and waiting for 12pm to strike at Kelsey Kerridge sports hall for their home fixture with the fabled UEA team. Fielding a nearly full and nearly injury-free team for the first time this season, the Blues got off to a storming start in the warm-up - laps of the hall were successfully negotiated, stretching was performed without stress, sit-ups were completed without fuss and ball skills were tested in one-on-one play. Hitting through four the Blues looked unbeatable, with every member of the team sinking line shots into the three metre line. Service looked a little shaky at first glance but began to pick up with the threat of block-jumps.
In the first part of the match the setters were segregated in a surprise tactical move and could be seen dodging around obstacles at the court-side. Unfazed by this complication the rest of the team settled into picking up the ball and making points. The sets drifted by and the Blues went from strength to strength. All of the team had a nasty moment when they could be found lying at the back of the court setting to themselves (no, its MY ball). And they nearly came unstuck at another point of the match when they found themselves confronted with a solid two man block in the middle that just wasn't moving. On the whole the Blues didn't seem to have much trouble with the fixture; Emily Longmore directed service after service over the net; Anna Woo, troubled by a back injury, still found height for attack; Anne Mullin was putting her new kneepads through the paces; and Pascale Garaud was sporting a facial imprint of a Mikasa for most of the afternoon. The referees had no trouble during the game, and indeed left after 30 minutes.
Queen of the court awarded to everybody who turned up.
Quote of the match; Jon Clarke (coach) - "This seemed too easy. It was as if UEA weren't even here."
