There are several reasons why you might want to be involved with CUECS. Firstly, our work has a positive impact on the environment. Secondly, it is good for your job prospects. Thirdly, it can be intensely rewarding. We elaborate on each of these below. If you're convinced, you may wish to read more about joining here.
Environment
The University educates some 16 500 students and employs over 8 000 staff. An institution of this size inevitably has a sizable environmental impact, and as a student CUECS may be the best way available to change this. By working on a local scale, we can make our contribution to the solution of global problems. This year we will be targeting the colleges and the May Balls, with the aim of reducing unnecessary waste, increasing the proportion of waste recycled and decreasing energy usage.
Employability
Project experience with CUECS can be a valuable asset for individuals seeking employment in certain sectors. It is evidence of the organisational and analytical skills looked for by employers, as well as offering an opportunity to develop them. It demonstrates a real enthusiasm for consultancy and can provide an insight into the nature of the field. Furthermore, our projects do not only involve consultancy - many of them are relevant to sectors as diverse as administration, marketing and academia as well.
Satisfaction
Many of our projects are intellectually challenging and stimulating. This can make them tremendously satisfying, as CUECS projects are inevitably learning experiences and often require many hours of combined mental effort before meeting success.
